Digital SAT / Computer Adaptive Testing

On November 19th only a little while ago, College Board gave an opportunity to students in Korea to get a feel for the new SAT test, the "Digital SAT."

1) The previous 3-hour testing is now about 2 hours (64 minutes for 54 questions in Reading and Writing, 70 minutes for 44 questions in Math) using a student-adaptive testing system called "Computer Adaptive Testing."

The Computer Adaptive Testing system determines from the responses from the first stage whether the second stage will be difficult questions (higher scorers) or easier questions (lower scorers).

In other words, depending on the level of the students, the difficulty of questions changes in Stage 2. To receive a higher score overall, test takers will have to get a minimum of 16 correct out of 20 questions in Stage 1 to take the higher scoring, more difficult, Stage 2 question set.

Let's get a close look at the difference in the Digital SAT from the previous system.

2) First, the Reading and Writing part is mixed with questions of both reading comprehension and grammar and comes with instead of long paragraphs with multiple questions, short paragraphs with 1 question each.

3) In the Math section, test takers are allowed to use calculators throughout the whole Math section. Test takers may use their own calculator or the calculator interface within the testing application.

4) Any usable and necessary math formulas will be provided.

5) The time remaining will be displayed on the application screen to allow students to pace themselves.

6) Also, even if the internet connection gets interrupted, the answers and remaining time saved on the computer will allow submitting the answers without fail.

7) The experimental test questions, the Pretest questions: these additional questions do not count toward final scores.

8) Flagging: test takers may flag questions to mark them so that they can be solved later.

9) A perfect SAT score is still the same 1600 scale.

10) The Digital SAT test can be taken only at schools or at assigned testing centers, not at home.

The new Digital SAT starts in Korea on March 11th, 2023.

You can start preparation this winter with Steven Academy, the SAT specialists.

Steven Academy has been running online digital testing for the last 10 years.
